
| COUNCIL BLUFFS SWIM CLUB SWIM SEASONS FALL/WINTER SEASON – The Fall/Winter Season will begin the first Tuesday following Labor Day in September and extend through the Midwestern LSC Division I Short Course Championship Meet in mid March. During the Fall/Winter season CBSC will compete in USA Sanctioned Short Course (25 yards) Meets. SUMMER SEASON – The Summer Season will begin the first Monday in May and extend through the Summer Midwestern LSC Division I Long Course Championship meet during the first week of August. During the Summer season CBSC competes in USA Sanctioned Long Course (50 Meters) Meets. COUNCIL BLUFFS SWIM CLUB TRAINING GROUPS BLUE GROUP- (practice 5:30-6:15 PM Monday through Thursday). This group is for the beginning competitive swimmer that is able to swim at least 15 yards on their front and back. The swimmers in this group will learn the four competitive strokes in a swim lesson format. Blue Group swimmers will compete in selected meets. GOLD GROUPS - (practice 5:30-6:45 PM Monday through Thursday). Gold Group swimmers train in three or four different ability groups with a separate coach. Our coaching staff will decide which group fits their ability and experience and they will also decide when to advance swimmers to a more challenging practice group. Gold Group training stresses proper stroke mechanics through corrections and drills as well as more intense workouts at each level. This group is expected to participate in the team meet schedule. SENIORS - (practice 3:15-5:30 PM Monday through Friday & 8:00-10:00 AM Saturday) Seniors are a selected group of swimmers who want to make a strong commitment to train at a higher level. This group will include intense training, technique applications, as well as strength conditioning. A meet schedule will be designed to fit each individual needs and goals. UNITED STATES SWIMMING & COUNCIL BLUFFS SWIM CLUB United States Swimming (USA) is the governing body of all nationally sanctioned swimming in the United States. United States swimming is dividing into 59 different associations called Local Swim Committees (LSC). The Council Bluffs Swim Club is a member of the Midwestern Association (LSC) which geographic area includes all of Nebraska except the Panhandle region and includes the western two tiers of counties in Iowa. MIDWESTERN ASSOCIATION SWIM MEETS Midwestern Regular Season Swim Meets- Our Local Swim Committee (Midwestern Swimming) has adopted a Gold and Silver classification system for all meets. ALL regular season meets within the Midwestern Association will be designated as a Gold or a Silver meet. The Gold Level Meets are for swimmers that have achieved National BB time standard. For swimmers to compete in this level of meet they must have achieved a national BB time for each particular event & distance. The Silver Level meets are for swimmers who have not achieved a Gold Level time (BB) in a particular event and distance. Midwestern Division I Championship Meet- At the end of each season our Local Swim Committee (Midwestern Swimming) has a Championship Meet exclusively for all teams in the Midwestern Association. Midwestern has established a separate set of qualifying times for swimmers to achieve in order to swim in this meet. Since this is a championship meet team and individual scores are kept. Midwestern Division I Qualifier Meet- Prior to the Division I Championship Meet Midwestern will have a qualifying meet for those swimmers that have not yet achieved a Division I qualifying time during for the Championships. COUNCIL BLUFFS SWIM CLUB MEET SCHEDULE Each Fall CBSC will provide the membership with a meet schedule. Our head coach will decide which meets each swimmer can and should attend. Our weekly newsletter will keep parents and swimmers informed of which meets swimmers qualify to swim. SPECIAL MEETS / QUALIFING MEETS / SELECT MEETS Each season some of our CBSC swimmers qualify for or are selected for some special swim meets that are not on our regular meet schedule. We encourage our swimmers to set goals of reaching these meets. CBSC and the Midwestern Association encourages all swimmers to attend these meets and they also provide some financial support. Below is a short description of those meets that CBSC supports and the qualifications needed for swimmers to participate. MIDWESTERN ALL-STAR MEET This meet is in mid-January each year. Swimmers must have an A time in an event to qualify plus they need to be selected by our Midwestern LSC Association. The selected Midwestern team then competes against other select team from surrounding LSC Associations. Financial Support: CBSC pays meet entry fees. SECTIONAL MEET This is a senior level meet. This meet is held during the winter and summer seasons. Any swimmer that has achieved the qualifying time from either the short course or long course seasons will qualify to swim in the meet. There are 8 sectional meets each season within USA swimming. Each sectional has 8-10 different LSC’s participating. Financial Support: CBSC pays meet entry fees. Midwestern Association pays up to $100 for expenses. ZONE MEET Zone Meets are national age group meets. The meet is held every year during the summer following the Summer Long Course Division I Championships. Swimmers that have achieved at least one AAA time can participate in this swim meet. The LSC’s are divided into 4 zone meets throughout the US. Financial Support: CBSC pays meet entry fees. Midwestern Association pays up to $100 for expenses. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS (JUNIOR OR SENIOR NATIONALS) These meets have a special qualifying time established by USA Swimming and published in the USA Rules and Regulations book. This meet is open to all swimmers that have achieved the qualifying time. Financial Support: CBSC pays meet entry fees. Midwestern pays up to $400 for expenses. OLYMPIC TRIALS This meet occurs every 4 years. Swimmer must achieve a qualifying time established by USA Swimming. Financial Support: Midwestern pays up to $800 for expenses. NOTE: The next trials will be in 2012 at the Qwest Center, Omaha. CLUB OPERATIONS TEAM REGISTRATION – At the beginning of each Fall/Winter season CBSC requires a team registration of all swimmers in the club. Team registration consists of demographic information plus emergency and contact information. An annual team registration fee is also assessed each swimmer. This registration will cover swimmer registration to USA Swimming. USA MEMBERSHIP - All club swimmers, club officials, and club coaches are required to join the USA Swimming Organization. USA Swimming provides an insurance plan with membership to their organization. This membership is imperative in order for CBSC to receive its sanction and all rights and privileges provided it by USA Swimming. MEET REGISTRATION – All CBSC swimmers WILL be registered in each meet on the team schedule UNLESS they do not qualify for a particular meet. Our head coach will decide which meets each swimmer qualifies for and which events they will swim in the meet. Swimmers to be entered in a particular meet will be posted in the newsletter and their events will be posted on the team website and the team bulletin board. MEET SIGN-OUTS- If your swimmer(s) cannot attend a particular meet or a particular session of a meet then it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to Sign-out of the meet before the deadline. The meet deadlines will be announced in the weekly Newsletter. These deadlines are anywhere from 1-2 weeks before the date of the meet. Note: The sign-out notebook will be located in the pool office. NEWSLETTER- Each Monday during the season our head coach will have a newsletter available for all members. The newsletter will be emailed to each family. A hard copy of the newsletter will also be available in the pool office and it will be posted on the team website. The newsletter will keep everyone informed as to the upcoming swim meets and entry deadlines, practice schedule changes, meet results, and other team functions or changes. VOLUNTEERS- Besides swimmers the lifeblood of the swim club is its volunteers. Below is list of volunteers the club relies on to carry out some of the functions of the club Club Liaison- Each Fall/Winter Season the club needs a volunteer to become the club liaison to our club treasurer. The club liaison needs to be available during club practices to: 1. Collect & Record Fees 2. To handle Meet Registration 3. To handle and sell team supplies 4. To distribute & collect fundraiser information and fees Meet Chairperson- Each Fall/Winter season CBSC needs a volunteer swim meet chairperson for each of its swim meets. This chairperson’s responsibility is to help organize volunteers to work at our swim meets. Note: In order to fulfill all of our need for workers at our swim meets with volunteers it becomes necessary sometimes to assign parents to needed duties. Officials- Sanctioned officials are needed to run all swim meets in USA swimming. CBSC needs volunteer club parents to become certified to run our own meets. FAMILY FILE FOLDER- A file holder for each family will be located in the pool office. You will find fee statements, meet ribbons, and team newsletters in your file. MEMBERSHIP FEES 2008-09 CBSC FEES BLUE GROUP $45.00 PER MONTH GOLD GROUP (I, II, III) $55.00 PER MONTH SENIORS $70.00 PER MONTH REGISTRATION FEE $65.00 EACH MEMBER ONE TIME CHARGE PER SEASON MEMBERSHIP FEES - Fees are due at the first of every month. Fees will be prorated for those swimmers that start the team after the first of the month. The Fall/Winter Season begins the Tuesday following Labor Day each year and will not officially end until the Midwestern Championship meet during the month of March the following calendar year. There will be approximately 7 months of fees for practice during the Fall-Winter Season. The Summer season starts on the first Monday of May and will not officially end until the Summer Midwestern Championship Meet at the end of July / 1st of August. There will be 3 months of practice fees for our Summer Season. SWIM MEET FEES- Each swim meet host on our schedule will charge and entry fee for each event. Individual entry fees within the Midwestern Association will be $2.00 per event for regular meets and up to $3.50 per event for Championship Meets. Note: Midwestern also charges each swimmer $5.00 for each meet they enter. FEES STATEMENT - A statement will be prepared each month (starting October 1) by our club secretary/treasurer and handed out or placed in your file folder. Each statement will include your monthly membership fee plus all other charges that were accumulated during the previous month for swim meets and/or equipment (suits, warm-ups, goggles etc.). CHANGE IN PARTICIPATION STATUS - The Council Bluffs Swim Club will not prorate fees for those swimmers who start a month of practice but choose not to complete it. In order to be placed on inactive status or to change your status you must complete an inactive form and turn it in to our club liaison or the Head Coach prior to the month in question. COUNCIL BLUFFS SWIM CLUB FUND RAISERS FUNDRAISERS- Club fundraisers are used each year to supplement the club income to help pay for swim practice equipment, swim meet supplies and equipment, special club events, club awards, swim team banquet and for financial support for our athletes participating in national events. NOTE: During the 2010-11 Fall/Winter Season each family of 1 swimmer is responsible to raise $75 to supplement the club income. A family of 2 swimmers is responsible to raise $100 and a family of 3 or more $125. The following is the club adopted fundraiser projects for this season PIZZA SALES- CBSC members that choose this fundraiser project are asked to sell Red Wheel Pizza and/or Butter Braid items. Each family of 1 swimmer will be required to sell 25 items; a family of 2 swimmers 35 items; a family of 3 or more swimmers 45 items. Each family will also be expected to deliver their items to their buyers. Incentive prizes will be established to encourage families to sell more then the required amount. SWIM MEET ADVERTISEMENT- CBSC members that choose this fundraiser project will be responsible for selling advertisement to be placed in the swim meet program of either of our CBSC swim meets during the fall/ winter season. Each family of 1 swimmer will be required to sell $75 in ads, a family of 2 will be required to sell $100 in ad’s and a family of 3 or more swimmers $125. Incentive prizes will be established to encourage families to sell more then the required amount. ADVERTISEMENT GUIDELINES EVENT SPONSOR $ 10.00 1/4 PAGE ADVERTISEMENT $ 25.00 1/2 PAGE ADVERTISEMENT $ 50.00 FULL PAGE ADVERTISEMENT $ 75.00 ASSESSMENT: Families that do not wish to participate in the above fundraiser (s) will be ASSESSED $75.00 for a family with 1 swimmer; $100.00 for a family with 2 swimmers; and $125.00 for a family with 3 or more swimmers. COUNCIL BLUFFS SWIM CLUB TEAM UNIFORM & PRACTICE EQUIPMENT TEAM UNIFORM-. The Council Bluffs Swim Club does have an official team uniform that includes team swim caps, suits, T-shirts, warm-ups and travel bags however the CBSC Team Cap is only mandatory part of the uniform that is required to be worn at all swim meets. Each season CBSC will have these items available for sale along with other team items. These items will also be available as incentive prizes from our Fundraising Projects. Swimmers will only need a swim suit and goggles to participate in each practice session. CBSC CLUB AWARDS FALL/WINTER SEASON MONTHLY ATTENDANCE AWARDS- Each month starting in October and continuing through March, CBSC will give a special monthly award to the swimmer (s) with the best attendance in each practice group. SWIMMER OF THE MONTH AWARD- Starting with the October or November swim meets and continuing through the end of the short course season our head coach will select a swimmer or swimmers each month who have excelled in our scheduled swim meets. BEST ATTENDANCE AWARD- This award is presented to the swimmer(s) who attended the most practices during the season in their assigned practice group. OUTSTANDING MALE & FEMALE SWIMMER- Each season a male and female swimmer will be selected as the “Outstanding Swimmer of the Year’. The following point system will be used to select the swimmers: 1. Time Improvements: 1 point will be awarded for each meet in which the swimmer improves their personal best time for the season in the majority of their events swum in that meet. 2. Class Improvements: 1 point will be awarded for every event in which a new national Age Group Motivational Time Standard was achieved, 3 points will be awarded for achieving two standards in any event, 5 points awarded for achieving three standards, and 8 points for achieving four new standards in the same event from their personal best time in any event. 3. Team Record: 1 point for any CBSC individual or relay Team Record. OUTSTANDING GROUP SWIMMER- Outstanding swimmer awards will be given to the swimmer in each group that accumulates the most points towards the outstanding male & female swimmer but did not achieve the award. SUMMER SEASON OUTSTANDING MALE & FEMALE SWIMMER- This award will be given to the Male and the Female on the team that accumulates the most points during the summer season using the same point system outlined above. AWARDS BANQUET CBSC will have an awards banquet each year. The awards banquet will be in March after the fall/winter season. ALL club awards will be presented at that time plus each swimmer that has participated with the club will receive a Participation Award. SPECIAL CLUB EVENTS FALL CLINIC- Each Fall CBSC will start off the swim season with a stroke clinic to get everyone updated and orientated to new stroke rules and techniques. Our coaches will also be teaching or re-teaching the traditional stroke drills and techniques that are used daily during regular practice sessions. This clinic week is also a FREE TRIAL WEEK for new prospective club members. CLUB SWIM MEETS- During each Fall/Winter season our club will host swim meets at the Lewis Central Titan Hill Swimming Pool. These meets take a lot of preparation and require a lot of volunteer help. Please volunteer to help at our swim meets. HOLIDAY PRACTICES- During the fall/ winter season the team will have some special practices to celebrate some of the traditional holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Etc. CHRISTMAS PARTY- Each winter during Christmas vacation the team will sponsor a holiday party. The parties have included such activities as bowling, roller skating, ice skating and swim parties. TEAM AWARDS BANQUET- At the end of the Fall/Winter Season (March) each year the team will have an awards banquet. The banquet will include a social, a team dinner and the presentation of ALL club awards. All swimmers and their families that were active in the club during the Fall/Winter season or the Summer Season are welcome to attend. |
